Kitten Heels Stage a Comeback in Zyne’s Spring 2019 Collection
Kitten heels have been turning up on the runways for several seasons now, namely at Dior, Gucci, and Balenciaga to name a few. And now Zyne’s (“beautiful” in Arabic) Zineb Britel and Laura Pujol have decided to take a cue from the runways by incorporating the micro-heel into the Moroccan label’s handmade designs for the first time for Spring 2019.
The brand, which made its UAE debut in 2017, unveiled its new offering via an intimate dinner in Dubai’s Parisian eatery La Serre, in conjunction with accessories label’s L’Atelier Nawbar and Okhtein, whom it collaborated with on a range of bags.
Inspired by the North African country’s traditional babouche sold in handfuls at the glistening souks of Casablanca, the footwear brand’s latest offering provides an edgy take on the oft-polarizing kitten heel. Boasting a versatile line-up of embroidered slippers and pointed-toe mules in rich materials like satin, the tapered heel comes in four fresh silhouettes, ranging from needle-thin heels to sculptural spheres to add a little height. Shoe obsessives will also revel in the brand’s newest range of babouche-style flats in feminine floral prints and the deliberately mismatched styles (nonidentical-colored footwear also had a major runway moment). There are evening options available too, in the form of crystal-embellished mules that are cozy enough to also wear to the office.
The appeal of Zyne’s must-have footwear goes beyond fashion, though we do predict that the Spring 2019 offering will definitely become a go-to. Each woven raffia sandal, crystal-embellished mule, and satin slipper is meticulously handcrafted by women cooperatives in the community. These coops are dedicated to improving the welfare of local women by inviting them to provide for their families via the production of the shoes, as well as promoting the preservation of the forgotten craftsmanship in Morocco. How can you not fall in love with kitten heels all over again?
